2019 was an incredible year for Davis Events Agency where we planned and managed dozens of projects, including some of Ireland’s biggest events of the year. Last year alone, we managed dozens of events. In fact, 2019 was so great we’ve decided to share our success with you by giving you three event planning tips so you can stride into 2020 with your head held high.
Although we could harp on telling you about each one of our abounding successes, we know how valuable your time is so we’ll get right to it. We’ve cherry-picked three of our biggest events to share with you some helpful tips for when you’re planning events of your own.
AUTODESK World Cup 2019
As one of the world leaders in computer-aided design (CAD) software, Autodesk has thousands of employees across dozens of locations worldwide. Davis Events worked as a Dublin Destination Management Company Dublin Destination Management Company (DMC) in the planning and management of the AUTODESK World Cup in June 2019, bringing employees and their families together from all over the world to compete and enjoy Ireland’s breathtaking scenery.
The Autodesk Football World Cup had fairly modest beginnings when it started back in the early 2000s, but it has grown to become a really impressive employee engagement event that is now in its sixteenth year.
Each year the tournament is held in a different city around the world, and this year we welcomed 1,200 employees to Dublin from the company’s long list of global offices. 2019 saw 49 teams competing in the tournament, including 34 men’s/mixed teams and 15 women’s teams, as well as several hundred friends, family and football fans in attendance on the day.
Communication Is Key
From our experience of successfully delivering events for large groups of people, we know that communication is key to creating positive, memorable experiences for everyone. We never want anyone to miss out on a piece of the action. As well as fitting the National Sports Campus with a state of the art PA system for the day of the tournament, we also introduced new technology to ensure all 1,200 attendees were kept up-to-date on the day’s itinerary, every step of the way.
Our Event Planning Tip
Invest in tech with a custom-designed event app.
Event apps are a great way of communicating with and engaging attendees in advance of the event day. We produced an easy-to-use bespoke app for Autodesk that allowed attendees to message and share content, as well as access maps, travel tips and personalised itineraries before the event.
On game day, attendees could keep up with how the tournament was progressing with live scoreboards and video clips. Plus, the app acts as a great repository for all of the content that was shared by attendees, ultimately giving the event a much longer life.
Pink Lady – National Ploughing Championships 2019
Pink Lady returned to the National Ploughing Championships Pink Lady returned to the National Ploughing Championships in September 2019 and we had the pleasure of working with them to deliver a unique and eye-catching brand experience, helping Pink Lady get their apples into the hands of almost every one of the 100,000+ attendees.
We represented the Pink Lady brand across a unique and exciting event environment in Carlow this year – creating eye-catching branded structures and unique brand experiences that increased awareness of the Pink Lady product in the Irish marketplace.
To maximise the rates of success and impact with an experiential campaign like this, we needed to have the very best team of brand ambassadors working on the busy three-day event. Our philosophy is simple: a brilliant experience starts with great people!
Our Event Planning Tip
Ensure brand ambassadors reflect your brand’s values & personality.
We ensure that the brand ambassadors and representatives that we handpick for our clients’ campaigns or events reflect the values and personality of that brand. To achieve these levels of success, we don’t just recruit our brand ambassadors; we manage and train them on an ongoing basis.
To deliver a truly end-to-end experiential marketing campaign like this, we measure their impact by tracking the customer engagement journey, offering great actionable insights for future campaigns!
Dublin Culture Night 2019
This year, we managed some of Ireland’s most prominent events, including Dublin’s Culture Night in September 2019, which saw thousands take to the city streets to soak up as much culture as possible in one exhilarating evening.
Culture Night has grown tremendously in scale and ambition over its 13-year existence. Each year, the challenge is to attract and amaze audiences from across the country, raising the bar from what went before.
We were delighted to join the Culture Night team for the second year running to assist in making their visions a reality by inviting the Nation to ‘Wrap up in Culture’.
Following on from the success of our 2018 Culture Night collaboration – the wildly successful RTÉ Concert Orchestra performance in The National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks – Davis Events was approached by Culture Night in 2019. This time, we wouldn’t simply steer the ship for the open-air concert, but we would also oversee the other major outdoor activations taking place across Dublin city that evening.
What do you get when you put a tower crane in Central Plaza on Dublin’s Dame Street add 3 projectors, 1 visual artist, a musical composer, 18 PA speakers, 1 aerial performance troupe with absolutely zero fear of heights, 1 dedicated events team?
1 groundbreaking spectacle for Dublin City Centre!
Plus we oversaw:
- Wood Quay Amphitheatre: An outdoor concert surrounded by an Eco Village of stalls filled with discussion, fashion and crafts with a focus on sustainability
- Barnardo Square: An audiovisual demonstration with content provided by Screen Ireland – a cinema screen the height of a four-storey building.
- Meeting House Square: A funky rave for little kids followed by a set for the older “kids” by District DJS
- O’ Connell Street: An outdoor Classical Piano Concert in front of the historic backdrop of the GPO.
