The Event Brief

We were delighted when Dropbox asked us to get involved in transforming their office for a St. Patrick’s Day event.

The aim was to switch up their Whiskey Fridays with a fun, interactive St. Patrick’s Day theme for up to 150 staff and friends. Our objective was to get staff involved and to tie in with the positive culture of Dropbox.

Our Response

We thought that the typical St. Patrick’s Day theme was overdone and decided to create a traditional Irish pub in the Dropbox EMEA HQ instead. The Dropped Box was open for one night only on the 16th of March. We’re big fans of puns in the office and Nikki’s play on the Dropbox brand name making it into a traditional Irish pub name instead was brilliant, we jump at the chance to include a client’s brand in our events!

Creativity & Innovations

We took all our favourite elements from traditional Irish pubs to transform the space. Old Irish props like wagon wheels, football boots, whiskey crates and even a milk churn decorated the room. We even had whiskey bottles which held candles on barrel tables in the centre of the room and a whole Irish postbox was put into the room too!

We thought of different activities for the staff to participate in; a potato peeling contest, beer pong, a costume contest and even a Guinness pint pulling experience. The staff learnt how to pull a pint of Guinness which went down a treat with the staff who received certificates when they successfully pulled their own pint of the black stuff!

We sourced a trad band and Sean Nós dancer for the evening’s entertainment who really got the crowd going. There were jigs and yips and lots of crowd involvement which was exactly what we were looking for! I even thought the battle between the Sean Nós dancer and the bódhran was pretty cool!

We also worked closely with Dropbox’s internal catering team who created an amazing menu that would go with the theme. Tayto sandwiches, guinness glazed salmon, black pudding nachos and more delicious dishes were on the menu, the staff really outdone themselves! I also have to give a special mention to the green, white and orange macarons that Michelle absolutely adored!

We created different signage with Irish sayings on them and some ‘as Gaeilge’ too. We also made and set up table cards with little known facts about Ireland (like did you know a song only has to sell 5,000 copies in Ireland for it to become a hit?!).

Results

The event was a huge success with Dropbox’s staff, the space was full and you know you’ve run a good event when nobody wants to leave at the end!

From the trad band teaching the crowd an Irish jig to the 6ft4 leprechaun winning the costume contest, the staff really got involved and had a ball in the process! When walking through the crowds it really felt like you were in a pub, which is exactly what we were trying to achieve!

This was a really fun event for us to work on and we were really happy with the results. The Dropped Box won’t be forgotten any time soon!
